MSPH Guidebook

This guide supplements information in the 2026/27 USF Graduate Catalog, and the Public Health MSPH section within the catalog.

The Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH) degree is offered by the College of Public Health. The MSPH provides a focus in research design, data collection, analysis and application of research in public health intended to improve and protect the health of populations. The degree is designed for students with good quantitative and/or qualitative skills and an interest in the science of public health and a comprehensive research experience. Students are prepared for research roles in academic or professional public health careers by incorporating epidemiological principles and biostatistical methods with their focus within the core areas of public health.

Keep your degree on track and in good standing:
- Keep your degree status active (see continuous enrollment under Enrollment Requirements on this page of USF Catalog)
- Know your degree time limitations
- Maintain a 3.0 or better Grade Point Average (GPA) (See Good Standing per USF Catalog) or you will be put on probation
Learn about Student Organizations
MSPH students may elect to take the Certified in Public Health (CPH) credentialing exam to earn the CPH credential. If you are interested, please discuss this option with your academic advisor as it may require extra preparation/coursework.
Meet with your advisor the term before you graduate and review your status
Early during the semester you plan to graduate, you should register for graduation
Participate in the COPH graduation celebration, the USF Health graduation ceremony, and join our USF and COPH alumni communities
